Fiesta Caliente

Summer Partay 2004

It was hot in the summer of 2004, and we were sweaty and smelled of garlic and motor oil, and it occurred to us that we needed to have a party or that someone was going to get slapped. In collaboration with our friend Brady Vest, owner of Hammerpress Studio, we conceived Fiesta Caliente, which we believe roughly translates to “hot party”. We designed a dumbbell shaped affair, with el dorado and Hammerpress serving as safe-house “boundary” nodes, connected by a straw-bale lined “action shaft”. About 1000 limes lost their lives in the creation of a swimming-pool size margarita lake (which wasn’t really a lake…more like a large number of sticky plastic tubs). Anchoring the debacle was the interior / exterior simulcast of four vintage Mexican wrestling films, for which we paid surprisingly vast last-minute-type sums. Delicious food-eating of authentic Mexican-type food occurred, although we underestimated the vegetarian population of Kansas City by a large mark. Everyone was over 21, we are sure of that…and there was much laughing.
